Prasanna’s Corner
Hi folks! I am in the last stages of recording/mixing my new album which is turning out to be quite something with some amazing musicians on it including my wife vocalists Shalini and Natalie John, pianist Vijay Iyer, trumpeter Dave Douglas, saxophonists Rudresh Mahanthappa and David Binney, bassists Mike Pope and Bill Urmson, drummers Rodney Holmes and Mauricio Zottarelli and more. The album will come out in early 2010. 2010 will also see the release of albums that I recorded with the two other collaborative bands that I play and write for - 'Ragabop trio' with saxophonist George Brooks and drummer Steve Smith and 'Tirtha' with pianist Vijay Iyer and tabla player Nitin Mitta.

'How can you play Carnatic music on a guitar'? is a question that was on everyone's mind when Prasanna daringly took to one of the world's most ancient musical forms on one of the world's most modern instruments - the electric guitar! 20 years on, the question is still asked by everyone but now in disbelief at how Prasanna brings out the subtlest of microtones on a standard electric guitar and goes even further by extending his signature style to Jazz, Blues, Rock, Classical music and everything that he feeds in as a contemporary musician of today.
