Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music
 

Prasanna is the President of Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music (SAM), India's first professional college for contemporary jazz, rock and world music. SAM is a 4 acre campus at Marg Swarnabhoomi about 80 kms from Chennai and is a 29,000 sqft. facility featuring world class gear such as Mesa Boogie guitar amps, Orange bass amps, Kawai grand, upright and digital pianos, Dixon, DW/PDP drums, Sabian cymbals etc. SAM's first diploma program from July 26, 2010 to Dec 18, 2010 will feature a top notch international faculty of drummers Atma Anur, David Anderson, Jovol 'Bam Bam Bell' and Harvey Wirht, guitarists Ed Degenaro, Rubens De La Corte and Prasanna, bassists Steve Jenkins and Steve Zerlin , vocalists Sarah Jerrom and Natalie John, pianists Manu Koch and Vardan Ovsepian and ghatam master Dr. S. Karthick along with acclaimed classical composer Dr. Randall Giles , the Dean of SAM.

Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music (SAM) presented an intensive performance workshop for guitarists, bass players and drummers from Aug 17-22, 2009 at Marg Tapovan near Chennai, India with a faculty of Prasanna and David Gilmore (Wane Shorter, Joss Stone, Trilok Gurtu) on guitar, Mike Pope (Chick Corea and the Elektric band, Al Di Meola band, Michael Brecker) on bass and Rodney Holmes (Santana, Wayne Shorter, Joe Zawinul) on drums.


Prasanna conducts several workshops/master classes all over the world to share the joy of cross-cultural artistic explorations in music with fellow musicians, artists and enthusiastic audiences as part of his outreach programs. Some of his acclaimed recent ones include -

These series of 4 workshops on carnatic music were for school children at primary and sceondary schools in the age group of 3 to 13. Accompanied by Poongulam Subramaniam on mridangam and Karthick on ghatam.

Feb 3, 2001- The British Council auditorium, British High Commission, Chennai
An intensive half-day workshop on 'appreciation of western classical music'. The workshop was probably the first ever workshop at this scale in Chennai with almost 120 participants in from teenagers to senior citizens from all over Tamil Nadu.

In addition to these, Prasanna has also performed/jammed in other workshops with artists such as Herbie Hancock and his works were performed at workshops by the Esterhazy String Quartet, Mobius chamber ensemble from the UK and others.
